What paddling options and categories are available?

You can race SUP, novice and recreational from 9:00am, and all other craft from 9:30am. Dragon boats, OC6 and OC4 are welcome, with no restrictions on craft type.

Where do we start and where do we finish?

Racing starts at Sunshine Coast Paddlesports Club, 107 Fishermans Road, Maroochydore, and finishes at Dunethin Rock Fishing Jetty. Shuttle back to the start is provided, and you can exit either in the lagoon or at the pontoon, or at the boat ramp.

How do entries and fees work?

Entry costs $25 per person. Register online via Webscorer, and each person must register individually so waivers are signed by every competitor.

Welcome to Maroochy River Paddle, the leading fishing club in Maroochydore! Whether you're a seasoned angler or just starting out, we have something for everyone. We offer a wide variety of kayaking options, including Racing Kayaks, Sea Kayaks, and Fishing Kayaks. We also have Dragon Boats and Outrigger Canoes, Surf Spec SKIs and Ocean Racing SKIs, Stand-Up Paddle Boards, Canadian canoes, Plastic sit-on-top kayaks, and anything else you might wish to paddle.

Our fishing club takes pride in organising races and events that cater to all skill levels and interests. The races are conducted under the International Canoe Federation marathon rules and are sanctioned with indemnity insurance from Paddle Queensland. Starts are staggered in groups according to the type of craft you're using, ensuring a fair and competitive environment. Safety boats accompany paddlers throughout the race to ensure everyone's well-being.

At the end of the race, paddlers have the opportunity to mingle and enjoy delicious food from the BBQ provided by the Rotary Club Caloundra Pacific. It's a great way to relax and unwind after a challenging race.

The race starts from the pontoon on Lake Dunethin, with paddlers accessing the pontoon via the jetty across the road from the entrance to the Scout compound. Bigger boats, such as outrigger canoes, fishing kayaks, and dragon boats, should launch at the boat ramp located 300m down the service road. There is limited parking along the road for vehicles and trailers. Craft launched at the boat ramp will proceed into the lagoon before their start.

Our race schedule is designed to accommodate different craft and ensure a smooth start for everyone. SUP and slower craft are given an early start, while the fastest paddlers and craft start last. Cash prizes are usually awarded for the first male and female home, followed by first place per division.

Race fees will be announced soon and registrations will be done via webscorer. On-the-day registrations will be $10 more, so it's advised to register before the event day. The registration area will be open from 7:00 am to 8:00 am. To register on the day, you'll need to fill out a registration form, sign a waiver, and make a payment before you're given a boat number and a wristband.

Parking instructions are provided to ensure a smooth and organised event. Depending on the weather, parking at the start will be within the Dunethin Rock Scout Compound. If the area is wet, you will be directed to roadside parking. Dragon Boat and outrigger paddlers may choose to park along the service road leading to the boat ramp.

It's important to follow the instructions of parking attendants to avoid any fines.

For those without a driver, there are options available. You can park at the finish and let us know if you need a lift. Alternatively, you can let us know after the conclusion of the presentations, and we will take you up to Dunethin Rock to collect your vehicle.
