The Marion Marlins Masters Swimming Club Inc. in Marion, Australia is a well-established ocean swimming club that has been making waves since its formation in 1981. Founded by Wendy and Chris Potter, former members of Atlantis Aussi, the club began its training at the Marion outdoor pool and later at Doug Openshaw's Swim Centre.
Thanks to the support of Atlantis Aussi and Ivan Wingate, the Marion Marlins Masters Swimming Club Inc. was able to grow exponentially and establish a loose association with the Marion Amateur Swimming Club. Under the guidance of its first coach, Paul Finn, the club successfully catered to both adult and junior swimmers. Many dedicated members from Atlantis and Adelaide Masters decided to transfer to Marion, playing a pivotal role in forming the core of the club.
In its early days, the Marion Marlins Masters Swimming Club Inc. faced financial challenges and relied on the assistance provided by the Marion Amateur Club. Nonetheless, this did not deter the club from achieving numerous milestones, particularly in competition areas and sea swims. The focus of the club has always been on promoting fitness and fun in all its activities.
Over the years, the Marion Marlins Masters Swimming Club Inc. has had the privilege of honouring various individuals as life members. This esteemed group includes Robyn Brown, Daryl Hawkes, Maryanne Heffernan, Ruth Henty, Di Ross, Jane Sutton, Sybil Killmier (Deceased), Chris Potter, Neal Bertram, Ian Young, and Heather Carbone. Their invaluable contributions to the club have played a significant role in shaping its success and fostering a strong sense of community among its members.
