About

Mallard Flyfishers Syndicate is a fishing club located in Malmesbury, Wiltshire. It is situated in the beautiful Cotswolds countryside on the Lower Moor Nature Reserve Centre near Oaksey. The club leases the private trout fly-fishing rights of Mallard Lake from Wiltshire Wildlife Trust. With its idyllic location and some of the best fly-fishing in Wiltshire, Mallard Lake offers both rainbow and brown trout that will challenge even seasoned fly fishers.

The club is situated about 12 miles from Swindon and is close to the market towns of Cirencester, Malmesbury, and Tetbury. Mallard Lake is part of the Cotswold Water Park, which consists of over 150 lakes spanning the English counties of Wiltshire, Gloucestershire, and West Oxfordshire. The lake covers 22 acres and is designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its rare water plants, including Chara, a stonewort that grows on the lake bed.

Trout fly-fishing at Mallard Lake is available for syndicate members and their “fishing only” guests from the south and east banks of the lake. Additionally, members can book one of the three rowing boats for a fixed 4-hour session. The boats are provided at no additional charge. The fishing season operates from 8:30 am to dusk, and catch and release as well as catch and kill options are available, although catch and release is not encouraged during hot summer spells.

The club takes pride in sourcing its rainbow and brown trout stocks solely from Hooke Springs Trout Farm in Dorset. The rowing boats are exclusively sourced from J. M. Coulam Boatbuilders, a specialist manufacturer of fishing boats based in Lincolnshire.

Mallard Flyfishers Syndicate promotes inclusivity and welcomes members of all genders and ages. The club particularly encourages female and junior anglers to join and even offers discounted tuition from their dedicated angling coach. Prospective members can get in touch with the club through the “Contact Us” tab on their website.

To ensure the safety of its members and visitors, the fishery is fully insured with public liability coverage and other necessary risk insurances through the Angling Trust. The annual membership fee for Mallard Flyfishers Syndicate is 295. 00, with an additional one-time joining fee of 40. 00 for new members.

As a member, individuals also have the opportunity to go pike fishing during the pike season.
