Maitland Bowling Club, located in Davidson's Mains on the north-western outskirts of Edinburgh, is a vibrant and active lawn bowls club that welcomes members and interested parties alike. The club has a rich history and is proud to celebrate its 100th birthday in 1999.
The club was founded in 1899, with a meeting held in the Muirhouse Arms where local gentlemen resolved to form a bowling club. Miss M G R Maitland generously gifted a piece of land adjacent to the bridge on the Leith Road for the club's use. The green and a pavilion were quickly built and officially opened by Miss Maitland in July of the same year. Entry fees at the time were set at 1.

Throughout the years, Maitland Bowling Club has been an active member of various bowling associations in the area. In 1904, the club joined the Scottish Bowling Association, and in 1939, it became a member of the Edinburgh & Leith Bowling Association. Since 1920, ladies have also played a prominent role in the life and work of the club, gaining full membership rights in 1996. The club was a founder member of The Scottish Women's Bowling Association in 1936.
Today, Maitland Bowling Club continues to thrive and is known for its dedicated and talented members. The clubhouse underwent renovations and extensions in time for the club's centenary, and its reopening was celebrated by Lady Militsa Maitland, almost a century after the original opening ceremony conducted by Miss M R G Maitland.
