Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club is a well-established fishing club located in Lymington, New Zealand. Founded in 1936, the club is affiliated with the Angling Trust and Marine Regional Group Wessex. Lymington is situated in a picturesque coastal area between the New Forest and the Solent, offering stunning views and excellent fishing opportunities.
The club's clubhouse, which was completed in 1993, is conveniently located off Bath Road car park in Lymington. This clubhouse serves as a welcoming and sociable space where members can gather, socialise with fellow anglers, and enhance their knowledge and skills through regular tackle talks and demonstrations. The club aims to promote both shore fishing and boat fishing for anglers of all levels in a safe and friendly environment, while also encouraging the conservation of fish stocks.
Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club welcomes new members, including juniors, and provides an easy-to-access membership application form on their website. They can also be found on Facebook, where members can stay updated on club activities. Additionally, a monthly newsletter is sent out to all members, keeping them informed about upcoming events and competitions.
For shore fishing enthusiasts, the club organises numerous competitions throughout the year at various beaches along the Hampshire and Dorset coast. In addition to monthly competitions, there are several leagues available, such as The Shingle Bank League and the Win-Sum League. The club also hosts three open shore competitions annually.
Boat fishing is divided into two sections: large boats (or charter boats) and shallow boats (privately-owned craft). The large boat section offers something for everyone, with monthly competitions out of Lymington, fished to minimum size limits, from April to December. Competitors can also take part in the highly competitive Match Boat League competitions from April to September, which are based on species without size limits and take place in Lymington, Poole, and Weymouth. Recreational boat trips are also available throughout the year, providing a friendly and pressure-free atmosphere.
The shallow boat section is specifically for privately owned boats, which stay within a designated area. Competitions are held year-round, and in the autumn, there is a boat competition open to both charter and privately owned boats.
The club is led by a group of dedicated officers and committee members who oversee its operations. This includes the Club President, Mr. Derek Smith, along with club vice-presidents, honorary life members, and officers such as the Chairman, Vice-Chairman, Hon. Secretary, Membership Secretary, and Treasurer.
The club also has various other positions, such as auditors, a docket steward, large boat and shallow boat commodores, and a range of secretaries responsible for specific competitions and areas within the club.
With a rich history and a focus on promoting fishing in a safe and friendly environment, Lymington & District Sea Fishing Club provides a welcoming community for anglers of all ages and skill levels. Whether you enjoy shore fishing or prefer the thrill of boat fishing, this club offers plenty of opportunities to engage, compete, and improve your angling abilities.
