Steve Waterhouse wants to reach out to everyone in the sports community about the journey and achievements of Lutonian Cricket Club. As many of you know, the club, situated in Luton, Bedfordshire, has a rich history that dates back to 1903, originally serving as a recreation section for Vauxhall Motors employees. Over the years, the club has grown and faced various challenges, including a move to different grounds due to facility availability.
In 1980, the club relocated to Toddington Manor and achieved significant success, winning numerous league titles. However, in 2009, a name change to Lutonian Cricket Club was followed by a move to Knebworth Park in Hertfordshire in 2011 due to rising costs. Unfortunately, the distance from Luton saw a drop in member interest.
The dream of moving to Lower Wardown Park became a reality in 2013, a significant milestone for both the club and the Luton community. Steve, along with Sam Parkar, played crucial roles in securing various facilities over the years.
Today, Lutonian Cricket Club proudly fields 3 Saturday teams, 3 Sunday teams, 4 Colts age groups, and a Girls team established in 2020. With the acquisition of Mobile Covers in 2021, the club has enhanced its playing facilities even further.
Steve also acknowledges the fantastic sponsorship from Hall of Fame, which has supported their journey. The club's players have shown remarkable performances, with Muhammad Adeel scoring an impressive 1004 runs, including two centuries in Division 2A of the Hertfordshire Cricket League.
Lutonian Cricket Club is currently leading the Hertfordshire Cricket League with 429 points, demonstrating its strong presence and competitive spirit. The club is committed to promoting diversity and welcomes players from all backgrounds. Membership is open through an annual application form and subscription. Respecting the spirit of cricket and following club rules is paramount.
The club’s home, Lower Wardown Cricket Pavilion on New Bedford Road in Luton, stands as a testament to their ongoing commitment to the community. New players and enthusiasts are always welcome to join and contribute to the club’s storied heritage.
Steve emphasises that Lutonian Cricket Club is more than just a cricket club; it’s a community built on teamwork, sportsmanship, and a passion for cricket. With a steadfast commitment to excellence, Lutonian Cricket Club continues to thrive and make its mark in the world of cricket.
