Located in Lowestoft, Suffolk, the Louise Elizabeth School of Dancing is a highly regarded dance school that has been teaching talented young dancers since 1988. Under the guidance of principal Louise Hebborn, who has over 33 years of teaching experience, the school offers training in various dance styles, including Ballet, Tap, Theatre Craft, Contemporary Modern Jazz, and Freestyle/Street.
Affiliated by the IDTA (International Dance Teachers Association), the dance school has recently relocated to Blundeston in Suffolk after being based at Carlton Colville Community Centre for over 30 years. This move allows for a fresh start in a new location while continuing to provide excellent dance education.
The dance examinations conducted at Louise Elizabeth School of Dancing are recognised by the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual), CCEA (Council for the Curriculum, Examinations and Assessment), and Qualifications Wales. These qualifications also appear on the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF), allowing students to count their dance training towards their UCAS points when applying to dance schools, colleges, and universities.
One of the core dance styles taught at the school is Ballet, the foundation of all dance forms. From Pre-Juvenile for children aged over 3 to Advanced 2 and the Classical Ballet awards, the school offers classes for all ages and levels of interest. Ballet, which dates back to the 17th century, embodies grace, fluidity, and conventional steps that still influence choreographers today.
Tap dance, another popular style taught at the school, has multiple claims to its origins, including African Jazz, Irish Jigs and Step Dancing, and English Clog Dancing. Regardless of its roots, Tap remains as popular as ever and is showcased in iconic musicals and shows like those of Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly.
Theatre Craft is a fun and varied performance-based show dance discipline offered at the school. Showcasing styles including Musical Theatre, Pantomime, Cabaret, and Commercial Dance, Theatre Craft focuses on kicks, turns, and rhythmic awareness. Props and accessories are also incorporated to enhance the styles, while fully orchestrated musical pieces create an exciting and unique performance-based syllabus.
For those interested in Modern Jazz, the school offers Contemporary Modern Jazz classes. Students learn various movements and develop physical strength and flexibility to demonstrate emotion through interpretation of different musical genres. From dancing to the rhythm of a drum to a funky jazz style, the classes explore contrasting movements and provide opportunities for members to interact and express their feelings through dance.
