The LotteBerk Exercise Studio in East Grinstead prides itself on providing challenging, fun, and highly effective classes. By following the LotteBerk method, participants can achieve remarkable results. The exercise classes offer an opportunity for women of all ages to attain the body of a dancer through hard work and dedication.
The LotteBerk method was developed by Lotte Berk, a modern ballet dancer born in Cologne, Germany, in 1913. Fleeing Nazi Germany in the 1930s, she settled in London and became a renowned dancer. Unfortunately, her dancing career was cut short due to an onstage accident in the 1950s. However, determined to maintain her dancer's body, she collaborated with her osteopath to create a series of exercises that would strengthen her core muscles, protect her back, and engage all the major muscle groups in her body.
Lotte firmly believed that every woman, regardless of age, could achieve a dancer's body through hard work. In 1959, she opened a small basement studio in London's West End and began teaching her exercise method. Word quickly spread about the effectiveness and enjoyment of LotteBerk exercises, attracting women from all walks of life, including celebrities such as Britt Ekland, Joan Collins, and Yasmin Le Bon. Lotte trained other teachers to spread her method, and it is now taught in various locations across Europe.
Lotte Berk continued to supervise classes well into her 80s, always maintaining her elegance, slim figure, and witty sense of humour. She passed away in 2003 at the age of 90, leaving behind a rich legacy of empowering women through her exercise regime.
