Lordship Hub Co-op, a Pilates club in London, is excited to announce an upcoming local Pilates event that you won't want to miss! We invite all Pilates enthusiasts in the area to join us for a fun and energising session.
Situated in the heart of Tottenham, London, Lordship Hub is a vibrant community building located in the beautiful Lordship Recreation Ground. This park, which was officially opened in 1936, has been a beloved attraction for families in the surrounding areas. However, over time, lack of funding had taken its toll on the park's condition.
In 2001, the Friends of Lordship Rec, a dedicated community group, took matters into their own hands. Their aim was to reclaim and transform the park, and they did just that. Through organising events, festivals, and volunteer days, they worked tirelessly to improve different areas of the park. Their efforts paved the way for the creation of the Lordship Rec Users Forum, an umbrella organisation that engages local individuals in the park's planning and development.
As part of a regeneration project funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Lordship Hub was constructed in 2012. It was an exciting endeavour that involved extensive community involvement in its design and construction. The Hub's unconventional design and shared community use made finding a suitable management team a challenge. Eventually, the Lordship Rec Eco-Hub Co-operative (LREH Co-operative) was formed to manage the building. The cooperative's goal was to keep the building within the community and run it collectively, for the community.
The Hub has quickly become a hub of activity within the local community. Its café, in particular, has become a popular gathering spot for people of all ages. Additionally, various activities and classes, including Pilates, are offered at the Hub, most of which are run by local practitioners. This creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere, making the Hub a meeting place for individuals from all walks of life.
Since its inception, the Hub and the park it resides in have seen remarkable growth. Today, the park receives over a million visits per year, a testament to the hard work and dedication put forth by the community.
