Dave, the organiser, wants to share a personal note with everyone about Llandaff City Bowmen, a well-loved archery club in Cardiff. Established in 1967, it’s the only club in Cardiff with both its own indoor and outdoor shooting ranges. This includes an 18 metre/20 yard indoor range and an outdoor range that goes up to 100 yards.
The club is pretty self-sufficient, with 12 shooting lanes, places to sit and stand for spectators, and a tea and coffee bar. There’s also disabled access throughout. Dave really loves how warm and welcoming the club is; they focus on enjoying archery in all its forms. Members shoot everything from longbows to compound bows, and even some unique ones.
Being a non-profit Charitable Incorporated Organisation, any surplus funds from fees, tournaments, and courses go straight back into improving the club’s facilities and equipment. It’s all about keeping the place running smoothly and making things better for the members and the wider community.
When it comes to shooting times, the club offers six sessions a week: Mondays and Tuesdays from 6pm to 9pm, Thursdays from 6:30pm to 9pm, Fridays from 7pm to 9pm, and weekends from 2pm to 4pm. During the outdoor season, they might tweak the schedule a bit for the weather, moving indoors as the evenings draw in.
Archery GB affiliated archers from other clubs are more than welcome to join in during these times. If you’re new and keen to join, beginner courses run from early October to the end of April on a first come, first served basis. However, there are no courses from May to September.
