Lincoln Kofukan Karate

Welcome to Lincoln Kofukan Karate, one of Lincolnshire's longest established Karate clubs. With over 40 years of experience, we are proud members of Kofukan International and the English Karate Federation (EKF).

At Lincoln Kofukan Karate, we practise the traditional Shit-Ry style of Karate and offer training for both tournaments and self-defence. We are a friendly and welcoming club, open to individuals of all ages and experience levels, from novice to experienced Karate practitioners. Our doors are open to anyone aged six to sixty who is interested in martial arts and self-defence.

Joining our club provides you with an excellent opportunity to learn Karate, improve your fitness, develop coordination, enhance self-confidence, make new friends, and eventually earn a Black Belt. Our aim is to create a warm and supportive environment where members can grow both physically and mentally.

One of our most esteemed instructors, Shihan Tomiyama, holds and attends courses worldwide. As a world-leading instructor, his expertise, and knowledge are invaluable for our club and its members. We also offer competition training for those interested in sharpening their skills and participating in tournaments.

Under the Kofukan England umbrella, we are affiliated with the EKF, which is recognised as the official governing body for English Karate. This affiliation ensures that our instructors and assistants undergo DBS checks and receive First Aid training, guaranteeing a safe environment for our members.

The general aims of our association include cultivating good personality and strong character, preserving correct techniques and katas, and promoting friendship among members. Our instructors adhere to the principle of respecting the values of traditional katas and encourage a unified study of kata and kumite. We also emphasise a scientific approach in analysing techniques and adhere to technical principles such as using the whole body to perform techniques and minimising unnecessary movements and force.
