The rich history of Lincoln Green dates back to February 1997 when the first recorded match was played between New Zealand Women and New Zealand A Women team. This was followed later that year by the inaugural first-class match, where the New Zealand Academy cricket team emerged victorious against Bangladesh.

In the 1998/99 Shell Conference, the ground witnessed matches between the Southern Conference and the Central Conference, as well as the Northern Conference.
