The Lethbridge Scottish Country Dance Club is a vibrant and welcoming dance club located in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. The club is conveniently situated in the south-western corner of the city, just a 2. 5-hour drive from Calgary and 100 km north of the Canada/US border.
Classes for the Lethbridge Scottish Country Dance Club are set to begin on January 10, 2024. The club offers general classes on Wednesday evenings from September to May. These classes consist of a mixture of technique, new and familiar dances, and social dancing. The classes are suitable for dancers of all levels, from basic and beginner to experienced and advanced.
The club's Wednesday evening classes are held at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, located at 1818 5 Avenue South in Lethbridge. The class schedule includes Regular classes, Step classes focusing on technique, and Social dances with a dance program distributed in advance and a mid-evening refreshment break. Additionally, in months with a fifth Wednesday, a social dance is held on that day, and the fourth Wednesday is used for a regular class.
In addition to Wednesday evening classes, the Lethbridge Scottish Country Dance Club also offers Friday morning classes at the Lethbridge Seniors' Centre on 500 11 Street South. These classes are held from AM to PM in the small gym and are open to all, with no partner required. Participants are encouraged to bring soft-soled shoes and a water bottle to these classes.
The club's classes are led by experienced and certified teachers, including Gail Michener, Fiona Miller, and Peggy Rodzinyak. These teachers have received training and certification from the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, with Fiona holding a Level 2 (Full) Certificate since 1978, Gail obtaining a Level 2 (Full) Certificate in 1990, and Peggy earning a Level 1 (Preliminary) Certificate in 2017.
