LESU Fitness Innovation Ltd, also known as LESU, is a leading fitness centre and sports injury clinic located in Liskeard, Cornwall. Established in 2017, LESU's primary aim is to make fitness enjoyable, leading to improved confidence and overall fitness levels in a supportive environment where goals can be achieved.
LESU offers a range of classes and programmes, from their popular Nordic Walking clubs to online classes, personal training, and various treatments. The ethos at LESU is centred around creating a sense of community, where strangers become friends and friends become family. They believe that being part of a winning team can significantly contribute to the overall fitness journey.
The founders and leading trainers at LESU are Bibi Wilson and Tug Wilson. Bibi, trained at the London School of Sports Massage, possesses a wealth of knowledge as a practising nurse practitioner within the NHS in North London. She is also an aromatherapist and an advanced personal trainer. Utilising her expertise in all four fields, Bibi has developed her own unique approach to “total wellness” and fitness regimens.
Tug Wilson is an advanced personal trainer who, like Bibi, trained at the London School of Sports Massage. Additionally, Tug is a Nordic walking master trainer and delivery partner with Nordic Walking UK. With 12 years of experience as a rapid response paramedic with the London Ambulance Service, Tug brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise in emergency medical care to LESU. He is also a mountain unit expedition leader and PADI rescue diver, having instructed survival techniques within the armed forces.
Nordic Walking, offered at LESU, is an activity that turns the outdoors into a gym. Originating in Scandinavian countries, Nordic Walking has gained popularity due to its numerous health benefits. Walking with poles has been proven to burn up to 40% more calories than regular walking. It provides low-impact exercise, reducing limb pain by up to 26% due to the even distribution of body weight on ankles, knees, and hip joints.
Engaging the poles during Nordic Walking also improves upper body strength, with correct technique allowing up to 90% muscle engagement. This activity enhances core strength, balance, and posture. By aiding in better balance and posture, Nordic Walking also reduces the risk of falls, especially amongst older individuals.
Furthermore, Nordic Walking engages the core muscles, including the abdomen and back, leading to improved overall strength, posture, and balance. In as little as four weeks, cardiovascular fitness can be significantly improved, and blood pressure can be lowered. Studies have shown that Nordic Walking can even improve resting blood sugar levels in menopausal women, reducing the risks of high cholesterol and diabetes.
In addition to the numerous health benefits, Nordic Walking at LESU also provides a social and fun experience. Participants have the opportunity to meet new people, make friends, and improve their fitness and overall well-being. LESU's Nordic Walking programme has instructed individuals of all ages, ranging from as young as five to as old as 92. They have even trained ironmen, emphasising their commitment to helping individuals of all fitness levels and abilities.
Whether seeking to improve fitness, recover from a sports injury, or simply enjoy the benefits of Nordic Walking, LESU Fitness Innovation Ltd is dedicated to providing a supportive and engaging environment to help individuals achieve their fitness goals.
