Leicestershires leading Swimming Club, also known as Leicester Penguins Swimming Club, is a long-standing and highly esteemed swimming club located in Loughborough, New Zealand. Established in 1960, it is one of the oldest sports clubs in Leicestershire, boasting a rich history and a strong tradition of excellence in coaching, training, and racing.
The club prides itself on being a friendly and open community that supports and facilitates the development of swimmers of all ages and abilities. From those who swim for fitness to those aspiring to compete at an international level, Leicester Penguins Swimming Club offers a nurturing environment for swimmers to reach their full potential. The club's dedication to creating a pathway for development can be witnessed in its provision of programmes for early competitive swimmers, as well as National and International-level competitors. Additionally, the club runs a highly successful Disability squad, which is headed by Jill Stidever, MBE, and a Masters squad.
Leicester Penguins Swimming Club places great emphasis on the importance of training, both in terms of technique and hard work. Swimmers are encouraged to strengthen their resolve and commitment in order to achieve their goals. The club offers a comprehensive training schedule, which can be accessed through their Training Sessions timetable and Training Locations. Whether aiming for the Olympics or simply wanting to be the best one can be, there is a programme tailored to suit every swimmer's needs.
The club organises various competitions throughout the year, including the Swim England licenced club champs exclusively for Penguin swimmers. These events provide swimmers with the opportunity to gain race experience, make new friends, and collect medals and trophies. Participating in these competitions also allows swimmers to achieve qualifying times to enter further events such as Open Meets, County Competitions, Regional Champs, National Championships, and British Champs. Leicester Penguins Swimming Club also hosts its own annual Open Meet and competes in a multitude of other clubs' swim meets.
These carefully selected competitions cater to a wide range of abilities and are designed to challenge and motivate swimmers.
As a team, Leicester Penguins Swimming Club competes in two swimming leagues: the National Arena Swimming League, consisting of over 400 clubs, and the Leicester League. With 3–4 teams competing in both leagues, Leicester Penguins swimmers have the opportunity to spend time with friends and experience the joy of winning as a team.
Welfare is a paramount concern for Leicester Penguins Swimming Club, and the club takes all welfare issues very seriously. They have a dedicated Members' Welfare page on their website, where members can find more information and contact the club's welfare officer.
Leicester Penguins Swimming Club welcomes swimmers of all abilities and encourages interested individuals to contact them for more information or to book a free swim trial.
