Welcome to Lee T'ai Chi Ch'uan, a self-defence school in Edinburgh that specialises in the ancient art of T'ai Chi. T'ai Chi Ch'uan, also known as “Supreme Ultimate Fist,” offers so much more than just physical exercise. It is a practise that incorporates physical movement, meditation, and self-defence techniques.
At Lee T'ai Chi Ch'uan, we believe that T'ai Chi is meditation in movement. When you witness the T'ai Chi hand form being practised, you will observe a series of slow, graceful movements that are not only relaxing to watch but also to perform. However, T'ai Chi is much deeper than just its exterior. It is about learning to be relaxed, gaining control over our bodies, emotions, and mental acuity.
By practising T'ai Chi, we can discover the calm within ourselves amidst the chaos of everyday life. We can develop a strong mind, body & spirit connexion, and become more attuned to our natural world and the people around us.
From a martial arts standpoint, our style incorporates a self-defence system that emphasises good technique rather than brute strength. This makes it accessible and suitable for everyone, regardless of age or physical ability. Many of our teachers and students are in their 70s and still possess remarkable flexibility and vitality. Our own teacher, Howard Gibbon, who is 74 years old, moves with the agility of someone half his age.
Lee T'ai Chi Ch'uan offers classes in Edinburgh and Carnoustie, catering to individuals who are interested in learning and experiencing the benefits of T'ai Chi. We also provide workshops, workplace Tai Chi relaxation sessions, conference sessions, and outreach groups tailored to specific needs, such as schools, care groups, and hospitals.
We invite you to explore our website, where you can find more information about our classes, the history of T'ai Chi, our gallery, news updates, and information on how to get in touch with us. At Lee T'ai Chi Ch'uan, we are dedicated to sharing the transformative power of T'ai Chi with our community, helping individuals find balance, peace, and strength within themselves.
