Whitstable Yacht Club is excited to promote an upcoming Sailing event that is perfect for those who are interested in taking their sailing skills to the next level. With their status as an RYA Recognised Training Centre, participants can expect top-notch tuition and a wide range of training boats to choose from.
For adults looking to join in on the action, Whitstable Yacht Club offers formal tuition for RYA Sailing and Powerboat Courses. These courses are conducted in small groups, ensuring personalised attention and instruction. Following the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) syllabus, each course is held over two days and provides a minimum of 16 hours of tuition. It's the perfect opportunity to become a competent sailor.
Adults can start with the RYA Level One (Start Sailing) course, which covers the basics such as rigging, launching, and wind awareness. By the end of this course, participants will be able to sail a boat under supervision. The schedule for this course runs from 9 am to 5 pm each day.
For those who already have sailing skills up to the standard of Level One, the RYA Level Two (Basic Skills) course is a great choice. This course focuses on building confidence and developing the skills necessary to become an independent sailor. Participants will learn rigging, launching, sailing in all directions, and even capsize recovery. Upon completion, they will be able to sail in all directions in good conditions.
Once participants have completed Level Two, they can move on to the RYA Level Three (Better Sailing) course. This course provides an opportunity to practice and consolidate skills, build confidence, and develop good sailing techniques. With optional units available, participants can tailor their learning experience to their needs.
Whitstable Yacht Club also offers youth training through their Cadet courses, which are designed for ages 8 to 16. These courses follow the RYA National Youth Sailing Scheme and take place over three days during school holidays. Through these courses and additional practice in WYC Cadet Sessions, young sailors can go from being complete beginners to confident, independent sailors.
If powerboating is more your style, Whitstable Yacht Club also offers the RYA Powerboat Level 2 course. This two-day course covers practical instruction and theory, along with a practical assessment. Limited to just three participants aged 14 and older, this course is perfect for those looking to gain powerboating skills or improve upon their existing ones.
For those who prefer a more personal touch, Whitstable Yacht Club offers one-to-one sailing lessons. Whether you're looking for a short taster session or want to focus on improving specific skills, these lessons provide the opportunity to do so. Taster sessions are three hours long and are a great way to dip your toes into the sailing world. Improver sessions are also available for members who want to enjoy a recreational sail with safety boat support and expert advice to help enhance their sailing skills. Club boats are available for hire at an additional cost for the session.
