Noosa Aquatic Centre, the local swimming club in Sunshine Coast, is excited to announce the return of our Learn to Swim program! Learning to swim is not only a fun activity but also an essential skill for Aussie kids, especially considering Australia's love for beautiful beaches, backyard pools, and swimming carnivals in the summer.
We offer a wide range of classes tailored to different age groups, ensuring that every child receives the appropriate instruction and attention. Let us take you through our various classes and their focuses.
For our youngest swimmers, we have the Baby Splash class, designed for infants aged 3–6 months. We also have the Jellyfish class for babies aged 6–15 months, the Hermit Crab class for babies aged 15 months to 2 ½ years, and the Goldfish class for children aged 2 ½ – 4 years. These classes primarily focus on water familiarisation, submerging, floating, and basic swimming skills—essential foundations for building confidence and independence in the water.
As children progress, they can join the Seahorse class, perfect for ages 3–4 years. In this class, we concentrate on improving body position, safety skills, and developing straight legs on both the tummy and back. The Flying Fish class comes next, specifically designed for confident preschoolers and beginner school-age children. Here, they will work on floating, submerging, and developing a propulsive kick to prepare them for learning arm movements in the subsequent level.
Our older children can join the Eel class, where we introduce freestyle and backstroke arm movements, coordination, and a strong propulsive kick. Once they're ready, they can move on to the Dolphin class, aimed at school-age children. In this class, swimmers will focus on side breathing in freestyle, arm and leg coordination, as well as backstroke and dolphin kick development. Finally, we have the Crayfish class, where children consolidate their freestyle and backstroke skills while also learning breaststroke kick, streamlined starts, and crouch dives.
It's important to mention that our Learn to Swim classes not only help children develop essential swimming skills but also prioritise their safety in the water. We want all our swimmers to feel confident and comfortable while enjoying their time in the pool.
