The Lake Bonney Yacht Club is thrilled to announce the upcoming LBYC Classic Dinghy Regatta! This event is a celebration of the rich history and elegance of classic dinghies, and we invite sailors of all skill levels to join us for a weekend of thrilling races and social sailing.
During the regatta, participants will have the opportunity to display and race their historic and classic dinghies with wooden hulls, wooden and fiberglass, or all fiberglass with traditional rigging. While we do appreciate the traditional elements, spars may be made of materials other than wood.
One of the highlights of the regatta is the chance for sailors to provide a brief history of their boat as part of the entry. Our organisers will create a display sheet for each boat, allowing everyone to better appreciate the unique stories and craftsmanship behind these beautiful vessels.
The regatta will feature a variety of events both on and off the water. On the foreshore of Lake Bonney, you'll have the opportunity to admire the stunning boats on display. Meanwhile, out on the water, exhilarating races will take place, providing a thrilling spectacle for participants and spectators alike.
Throughout the regatta, awards will be presented to recognise the incredible efforts of our sailors. There will be two categories for the race awards, and a panel of knowledgeable judges will assess the boats based on their performance and overall presentation.
To ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all participants, we have provided the sailing instructions and judging guidelines, which can be found below. We kindly ask all sailors to familiarise themselves with these documents prior to the regatta.
