Lau Gar Kung Fu West Acton, a well-known martial arts school in London, offers classes in the traditional Lau Gar style of Kung Fu. This UK-established school dates back to the early 1970s and is one of the world’s oldest Kung Fu styles. The focus is on southern Shaolin Chinese martial arts, featuring forms based on the Dragon, Tiger, Leopard, Snake, and Crane.
Students can expect a mix of traditional techniques and modern skills. Classes cater to all levels, encouraging development in self-defence, flexibility, strength, fitness, and stamina. Beginners, aged 7 and up, start with warm-ups, basic kicks, punches, and defences, progressing to advanced forms, self-defence techniques, and traditional weapons.
The school, led by experienced instructor Charles Reece, is known for its friendly and supportive community. Charles has over 40 years of experience, having coached many successful students from beginners to black sashes. Taught by Stan Brown, an original senior student of Lau Gar in the UK, Charles founded the British Kung Fu Federation (BKFF) and has produced world-class fighters.
Classes are held at two locations: West Acton Community Centre on Tuesdays at 7:30pm, and Parkside Community Centre, Ilford, on Mondays from 7:30pm to 8:30pm.
