Located in Larkhall, Scotland, Larkhall Avondale ASC, also known as Larkhall Avondale Amateur Swimming Club, is a welcoming and inclusive swimming club that prides itself on creating a family-friendly environment for swimmers of all ages and abilities. Founded in 1968, Larkhall Avondale ASC recently celebrated its 50th anniversary, and throughout its history, the club has consistently achieved outstanding results in swimming competitions at both the development and national level. The club trains and competes at the Larkhall Leisure Centre, which is located on Broomhill Road.
Larkhall Avondale ASC is proud to have over 100 active members, ranging from 7 to 60+ years old. The club embraces inclusivity and diversity, with swimmers of all abilities and backgrounds, including those with additional support needs. The club offers a platform for every athlete to reach their potential and develop lifelong skills and values, not just in swimming but in all aspects of life.
The swimmers at Larkhall Avondale ASC are divided into five squads: Development, Junior, Transition, Senior, and Masters, each with its own coaching team. Some squads have the opportunity to train up to six days a week, with sessions taking place in the early mornings and evenings to accommodate various schedules.
As a community-focused club, Larkhall Avondale ASC draws most of its members from Larkhall and the surrounding towns and villages, including Blackwood, Hamilton, Lesmahagow, and Stonehouse. In recognition of its commitment to community development, the club was awarded Club SL Gold Accreditation from South Lanarkshire Sports & Leisure in its anniversary year. This achievement was the result of the club's hard work in creating a sustainable development plan and continues to be maintained through ongoing review and improvement.
Additionally, Larkhall Avondale ASC has received the SwiMark Plus award from Scottish Swimming, further highlighting the club's dedication to excellence.
