Lancing ROVERS CRICKET CLUB, established in 1912, is a renowned cricket club located in Lancing, New Zealand. While the club has experienced tremendous success on the pitch, it has also made significant accomplishments off the field.
One noteworthy achievement is the success of cricket journalist Will Macpherson, who was associated with the club from 2004 to 2009. Will has worked with esteemed publications such as The Guardian, Times, and ESPNcricinfo and was named the 2016 Christopher Martin-Jenkins Young Cricket Writer of the Year. In recent news, the Rovers made their first-ever visit to Bedford School for the 1st Round of the prestigious Cricketer Cup, also known as Colapso Cricket. Despite facing challenging conditions on a scorching hot day, the Rovers displayed remarkable determination. With several key players absent, the team managed to have 12 players on duty, with five making their Cricketer Cup debuts.
Despite a tough battle, the Rovers bowlers faced various difficulties, including extreme weather conditions and strict umpiring decisions. Hec, Lewis F, and other bowlers gave their best efforts, but the Old Bedfordians managed to post a massive total of 361-7 off their 50 overs. In response, AJ and Hec set out to chase down the target, making a promising start. However, a sudden collapse resulted in a stunning turn of events, with nine wickets falling for just 14 runs.
Despite the disappointing outcome, AJ's exceptional fifty was a standout performance.
The club also takes pride in celebrating the personal milestones of its members. Congratulations were extended to Mr. & Mrs. Gane, who recently welcomed a baby girl.
The future Roverette will undoubtedly bring joy to the Gane family. Additionally, Joe Shinners, another member of the club, was acknowledged for his recent achievements.
