Located in Etobicoke, Toronto, Lakeshore Yacht Club is a self-help yacht club founded in 1991 that prides itself on its camaraderie and dedication to safe recreational boating. The club is home to approximately 180 boats, and its facilities were built entirely through the sweat equity of its members. Lakeshore Yacht Club operates on the financial and work-hour contributions of its people, allowing them to keep membership fees low and foster a genuine sense of community.
The club offers a range of facilities for its members, including a BBQ pit with five gas grills in a weatherproof area, a Great Room in the clubhouse where up to one hundred people may gather, a full kitchen open for all members and visitors, as well as bathroom, shower, and laundry facilities. As Lakeshore Yacht Club does not have a restaurant or bar, members are encouraged to bring their own food and beverages to keep costs low.
Visiting members of yacht clubs with reciprocal privileges are asked to contact the club on Channel 68 when approaching to cheque slip availability. If no reply is received, visitors can tie up at the Visitors' Dock until a member is available to sign them in and issue a fob for clubhouse and dock access. It is recommended that boats left at the Visitors' Dock are fully locked as there is no assured security in that area.
Lakeshore Yacht Club's mission is to promote safe recreational boating within the club and the community. Smoking is not permitted in specific areas of the club, including the Clubhouse, balcony, workshop, and covered areas on the property. For membership enquiries or general information, visitors can contact Lakeshore Yacht Club via mail at PO Box 48530, Lake Shore Blvd West, Toronto, ON M8W 1P8, or by phone at 416-255-3701. The club's physical address is 76 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive, Etobicoke, Ontario M8V 4B7.
The club's location is approximately 1/4 mile southeast of the harbour entrance and can be accessed by driving south on Kipling Avenue, continuing south crossing Lake Shore Blvd W onto Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive. A thumbnail history of Lakeshore Yacht Club indicates that its establishment was influenced by the Metro Toronto Conservation Authority's shoreline reclamation efforts in the early 1980s near the former Lakeshore Psychiatric Hospital.
