Rob from Ride Sheffield has got something special for the mountain biking community. Nestled in Sheffield, Lady Canning's Plantation MTB Trail is a prime spot for riders looking to hit some awesome trails without travelling too far.
Right on the edge of Houndkirk Moors, it's super accessible for anyone weaving through the Porter Valley. This place wasn't always MTB-friendly – walkers and riders used to carve their own paths – but in 2013, the main track got the bridleway stamp of approval.
Fast forward to 2015, and Rob made sure the first professional trail, "Blue Steel," came to life thanks to a smashing crowdfunding push. Folks from Go Outdoors, Norton Mayfield Architects, Cotic, and Avanti Conveyors chipped in, and with a thumbs-up from Sheffield City Council, Blue Steel launched that July.
Blue Steel’s got it all – easy, smooth berms and rollers, perfect for beginners and kids looking to level up before tackling the tougher Peak District trails. Jump on from the bridleway in the woods or roll in from Sheep Hill Road car park via Houndkirk Road.
And it gets better. In April 2017, "Cooking On Gas" trail opened up with flowy sections and plenty of rollers to keep the adrenaline pumping. Just like Blue Steel, it's beginner-friendly and perfect for all ages.
Need to fuel up? The Norfolk Arms pub is just a short ride away. Besides their breakfast menu and usual pub fare, it’s a handy pitstop. Just a heads-up – the pub car park’s for patrons only.
Lady Canning's is a gem right here in Sheffield. Whether you're a mountain biking newbie or a seasoned rider, these trails are a must-ride. So grab your gear and hit the woods!
