Kyu Shin Kan Aikido at Secular Hall is a reputable martial arts school located in Leicester, New Zealand. Established in 1989 by Peter Brown Shihan So Hombu, the school follows the principles and teachings of Kyu Shin Kan, which were bestowed upon them by Kazuo Chiba Shihan.
As of October 1st, 2017, Kyu Shin Kan became affiliated with Omeikai under the guidance of Toshiharu Sawada Shihan. This affiliation has granted Kyu Shin Kan Omeikai recognition from the Aikikai Foundation of Japan, also known as Hombu dojo.
Aikido, the primary martial art practised at Kyu Shin Kan, was developed by Morihei Ueshiba, also known as 'O' Sensei. The core philosophy of Aikido revolves around blending and harmonising with one's attacker, rather than opposing them. In Aikido, physical strength and speed are not emphasised, as practitioners, known as Aikidokas, focus on developing their skills and techniques. This makes Aikido suitable for individuals of all ages, sizes, and genders.
There are several reasons why one may choose to train in Aikido at Kyu Shin Kan. Firstly, Aikido is considered a martial way, which means it encompasses not only physical techniques but also spiritual and ethical development. Training in Aikido can lead to holistic growth and self-improvement.
Secondly, Aikido offers numerous physical benefits. Regular practise can improve flexibility, increase strength and stamina, and enhance overall body coordination. The techniques taught at Kyu Shin Kan also promote good posture and balance.
Apart from the physical advantages, Aikido training also provides psychological benefits. Through the practise of Aikido, students develop discipline, focus, and mental clarity. They learn to remain calm and centred even in stressful situations, which can be beneficial in daily life.
Furthermore, Aikido is a practical form of self-defence. The techniques taught at Kyu Shin Kan emphasise redirecting and neutralising an opponent's energy, rather than engaging in direct confrontation. These self-defence principles can be applied effectively in real-life situations, empowering individuals to protect themselves and others when necessary.
Lastly, Aikido extends beyond the confines of a training hall and can be integrated into daily life. The principles learned in Aikido, such as harmony, cooperation, and respect, can be applied to interpersonal relationships and social interactions, fostering better communication and understanding.
Kyu Shin Kan Aikido at Secular Hall welcomes individuals of all skill levels and backgrounds to experience the transformative power of Aikido. Whether one desires physical fitness, personal growth, self-defence skills, or a harmonious way of life, Kyu Shin Kan is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment for individuals to explore and develop their Aikido journey.
