Kyu Shin Do Aikido North Shore invites all interested players to attend our upcoming local Mixed Martial Arts event in Auckland. Established in 1992, Kyu Shin Do Aikido North Shore has been a prominent Aikido club on Auckland's North Shore for decades.
Aikido, a Japanese martial art developed by Morihei Ueshiba, emphasises the way of harmonious spirit. Unlike other martial arts, Aikido focuses on redirecting an attacker's force rather than overpowering them with strength. Our training involves both physical techniques and mental awareness of our opponents, allowing us to meet attackers with confidence and calmness.
In Aikido, our primary goal is to safely throw opponents rather than strike them. Therefore, our students learn how to execute controlled falls and rolls. As they progress, they gain knowledge of specific techniques against strikes and grabs, as well as defensive moves such as pinning and throwing. The training is conducted through partner pairings, with one student attacking and the other defending.
We also incorporate movements from traditional sword and spear practices into our Aikido training, reinforcing concepts of distance, foot movement, presence, and connectedness. Weapons training includes the short staff, wooden sword, and knife, both in solo and partner practice.
At Kyu Shin Do Aikido North Shore, we also cover defence against multiple attackers, utilising breath throws and a more advanced freestyle form called Randori. Randori allows our students to intuitively perform techniques in an unstructured environment, enhancing their overall skills.
For higher-level ranks, we offer a comprehensive syllabus that focuses on strategic skills and technique selection. Through our training, students not only learn the art of Aikido but also cultivate harmony in both their bodies and minds.
