About

In the picturesque city of Adelaide, there exists a renowned martial arts school, fitness centre, and karate school known as Kyokushin Bushido Karate. This establishment offers a comprehensive range of programmes and services catered to individuals seeking personal trainer guidance or embarking on a journey to achieve physical fitness.

Kyokushin Karate, which is the primary focus of this institution, is a disciplined art form that encompasses three fundamental elements - kihon (technique), kata (form), and kumite (sparring). By dividing their training into these distinct components, Kyokushin Bushido Karate enables their students to enhance their skills and capabilities through a structured and systematic approach. The ultimate aim is to unify these three domains seamlessly, creating a harmonious 'K' Karate.

Embedded in the core of Kyokushin Bushido Karate is the philosophy of osu no seishin, which translates to perseverance under pressure. The term “osu” resonates prominently within the dojo, symbolising patience, determination, and unwavering resilience. Beyond physical combat, Karate was conceived to instil discipline in the body for spiritual growth, forging a profound connexion between the physical and spiritual realms.

The lineage of Kyokushin Karate can be traced back to its founder, Masutatsu Oyama, also known as Mas Oyama or Sosai. Born in 1923 as Choi Yeong-eui in what is now South Korea, Sosai's expedition into the world of martial arts embarked at a tender age when he encountered Chinese boxing on his sister's farm in Southern China. Over time, Sosai honed his skills in various disciplines, including judo, boxing, Shotokan Karate, and Goju Ryu, training under the tutelage of highly esteemed masters.

Throughout his journey, Sosai sought to combine the best techniques from different martial arts, eventually retreating to the mountains for extended periods to refine his abilities. There, he underwent gruelling training sessions, persevering under icy waterfalls and using nature as his training partner. These relentless efforts culminated in Sosai's innovation and establishment of Kyokushin, which he showcased by emerging victorious at the first All Japan Martial Arts Tournament after World War II.

Kyokushin Bushido Karate proudly carries forward the legacy of its founder, integrating his wisdom and teachings into the fabric of their institution. Within the serene confines of this Adelaide-based establishment, individuals can unlock their true potential, enhance their physical fitness, and embark on a journey of self-improvement. Through discipline, hard work, and a commitment to the 'Seven Times Down, Eight Times Up' philosophy, Kyokushin Bushido Karate cultivates not only proficient martial artists but also resilient individuals ready to face any challenge that life presents.
