Kuk Sool Won, a martial arts school in King's Lynn, has been welcoming new students since its establishment in 1999. In 2006, the school moved to its current location, offering traditional martial arts teachings with a modern and enthusiastic approach. Kuk Sool Won combines various techniques such as kicking and punching, throwing, falling, joint locking, pressure points, meditation, and weapons techniques into a beautiful and dynamic hard/soft style that caters to individual physical and mental goals.
The school, run by experienced and professional instructors, provides a range of classes at convenient times to accommodate students' family and work commitments. Training at Kuk Sool Won offers numerous benefits, including improved fitness through strengthening and stretching exercises, a stronger body, a focused mind, increased confidence, self-discipline, better co-ordination, stress and tension reduction, respect for oneself and others, enhanced stamina, and self-defence skills.
Kuk Sool Won boasts a rich history that sets it apart from other martial arts styles. It is led by Grand Master In Hyuk Suh, also known as Kuk Sa Nim, who ensures that all schools teaching Kuk Sool adhere to the authentic teachings handed down through generations. In Hyuk Suh began his martial arts journey at the age of five, under the guidance of his grandfather, Suh, Myung Duk, a Master Instructor of the Korean Royal Court army. Despite the challenges presented by the Japanese occupation of Korea, Suh, Myung Duk passed on his knowledge exclusively to his immediate family.
Following his grandfather's passing, In Hyuk Suh continued his training and developed a deep understanding of traditional Korean martial arts. His studies took him to various masters, allowing him to explore the different aspects of this ancient discipline. In 1958, Suh systematised and organised his extensive knowledge, creating the art of Kuk Sool Won. He also inherited a compilation of five books containing the wisdom of the Korean Royal Court, solidifying his position as Kuk Sa Nim, a title officially recognised by the Korean Government.
In 1961, Kuk Sa Nim established the Korean Kuk Sool Association, making Kuk Sool Won the official name representing not just a style or type of martial art but a systematic study of various traditional Korean martial arts. This distinction emphasises the school's dedication to preserving and passing on the authentic teachings that trace back centuries.
At Kuk Sool Won in King's Lynn, students can expect a supportive and encouraging learning environment where they can develop their physical and mental strength, learn self-defence techniques, and cultivate essential values such as respect and discipline. Whether one seeks to improve their fitness, gain self-confidence, or explore the rich history and traditions of martial arts, Kuk Sool Won is ready to guide them on their journey.
