Kui De Tang Traditional Praying Mantis Martial Arts & Chinese Medicine Centre is a renowned establishment in Worcester, New Zealand that offers a unique blend of Chinese martial arts, traditional Chinese medicine, and holistic wellness practises. As the original and first official branch of Kui De Tang outside of China, the centre carries on the legacy of Grandmaster Wang Yunsheng and his creation of the Gong-Fu style known as 'Seven Stars Praying Mantis'.
The name “Kui De Tang” originates from the Wang family home, which has been passed down through generations. The 'Kui' star, representing one of the seven stars in the constellation known as the plough or big dipper, inspired Grandmaster Wang Yunsheng to name his style 'Seven Stars Praying Mantis'. This martial art has been carefully transmitted within the Wang family, ensuring its authenticity and preservation.
At Kui De Tang, the mission is to promote and preserve authentic Seven Stars Praying Mantis Gong-fu as created by Grandmaster Wang Yunsheng and transmitted by his descendants. The centre aims to provide people of all ages and genders with the opportunity to benefit from the physical, mental, spiritual, and cultural aspects of this treasured Chinese art.
Jaime Gonzalo Rodriguez, also known as Wang Mengyi, is the Head Instructor of Kui De Tang in Europe and the 5th generation successor of Grandmaster Wang Yunsheng's lineage. Rodriguez's martial arts journey began at a young age and led him to discover Seven Stars Praying Mantis as a teenager. His dedication to the art took him to mainland China, where he trained, lived, and researched extensively. After years of searching, Rodriguez was adopted as an 'Enter the room disciple' by Master Chi Xueyuan, who entrusted him with the entire alter and household name of 'Kui De Tang'.
As an 'Enter the room disciple' and adopted son of the family, Rodriguez has received the knowledge and teachings from the most knowledgeable Masters of Seven Stars Praying Mantis. He has been bestowed with the auspicious fifth generation Wang family name and is recognised as the 22nd generation of the Huashan Taoist sect. With his expertise and dedication, Rodriguez serves as the Head Instructor, ensuring the highest standards of instruction and guidance are maintained at Kui De Tang.
In addition to martial arts training, Kui De Tang also operates as a Chinese Medicine Clinic, offering a range of traditional Chinese medical treatments, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, and holistic healing practises. For those seeking relaxation and rejuvenation, the centre provides professional massage therapy and meditation instruction. Reflexology, another popular service, is available to stimulate energy flow and promote overall well-being.
