Welcome to the official website of Kubotan Karate Kai, the leading family-run Karate Academy in Pontarddulais, Swansea. Our Academy is the only purpose-built, full-time facility in the area where we specialise in practising the Traditional form of Karate called Wado-Ryu, which translates to “Way of Peace.
Kubotan Karate Kai is proud to be the founding members of the Wales Karate Association, the newest Karate Association in Wales. We are affiliated with the Welsh Karate Governing Body (WKGB), which further provides affiliation to the British Karate Federation (BKF), European Karate Federation (EKF), and the World Karate Federation (WKF).
Our lead instructor, Jason Hayward, has been involved in Karate since 1980, starting at the age of 7. Over the years, Jason has competed nationally and internationally, earning numerous titles. With 35 years of experience, he has trained under some top British and European Karate instructors.
For those interested in staying up-to-date with our activities, please feel free to browse our Events page on our website. We regularly update our Calendar with courses, gradings, tournaments, and squad training sessions. You can easily export these events to your smart devices. Some upcoming events include the WKGB Squad Training on January 14th, the Kata Course on February 24th, and the Partnered Blocks Course on February 25th.
We also hold gradings every four months to assess our students' progress. Leading up to each grading, we offer preparation courses which focus on both physical and mental readiness. The gradings typically take place in March, July, and November, but dates may be subject to change due to our busy yearly calendar. Students who are fully prepared will be considered for grading, at the discretion of our instructors.
