Koothambalam is a cherished dance institution nestled in the heart of Kuniyamuthur, Coimbatore. Originally established in Chennai in 1966 by the esteemed Natyacharya (late) S. Aravindan, an alum of the legendary Rukmini Devi’s Kalakshetra, the school has been imparting the rich heritage of classical Indian dance to students since its relocation in 1995. Aravindan’s multifaceted legacy lives on through his award-winning compositions and teachings that span across continents, with branches in the USA, Netherlands, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and several Indian cities.

Under the nurturing guidance of Kala Aacharya Guru Smt. Vasantha Aravindan, Koothambalam is not just a dance school but a second home for its students. Renowned for her grace, innovative choreography, and empathetic teaching style, she has garnered numerous accolades such as the Best Teacher award by Natyanjali Trust Chennai and the Kalaimagal award from Grasim Creations. With expertise in Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi, Mohiniyattam, and Kathakali, Vasantha Aravindan continues to inspire and shape the next generation of dancers, offering workshops and online classes globally.

Smt. Saathvika Aravindan, the talented daughter and disciple of the Aravindans, plays a pivotal role as a dance teacher, choreographer, and Joint Director of Koothambalam. Trained in Bharathanatyam, Mohiniyattam, and Kuchipudi, she has graced many prestigious dance festivals and won numerous awards, enriching the institution with her multifaceted talents.
