Co. Uk/kobukan Traditional Shotokan Karate is a martial arts school located in Windsor, New Zealand. The Kobukan Karate Club is a friendly and well-established club that has been practising traditional Shotokan Karate since its founding in 1973. The club follows the teachings of world-renowned karate master Soke Hirokazu Kanazawa 10th Dan and his son Kancho Nobuaki Kanazawa.
Both beginners and advanced students are welcome to join the Kobukan Karate Club. Whether you are interested in watching or participating, the club encourages everyone to attend one of their training sessions. These sessions take place at their purpose-built dojo, which features tatami mats, located at the New Windsor Community Centre in Hanover Way, Windsor.
The club was founded by Kyoshi Roger Carpenter, 8th Dan, who is also the Chief Instructor of SKKIF (Shotokan Karate Kobukan International Federation) in the UK. Over the past 30 years, Kyoshi Carpenter has taught traditional Shotokan karate to numerous students in the Windsor area, many of whom have achieved black belt status and beyond. He oversees the SKKIF organisation in the UK, making bi-annual visits to each club to ensure consistent training and maintain high standards.
In addition to Kyoshi Carpenter, the club is also led by Sensei Clive Young and Sensei Anne-Marie Box. Sensei Young, who set up the Greenford Karate Club (Fudokai) in 1981, is now the joint Chief Instructor at Kobukan Karate Club. Sensei Box, with her extensive experience in teaching children, ran a popular children's class for many years.
The Kobukan Karate Club believes that anyone, from the age of 13 and up, can practise karate and benefit from its unique approach to fitness, coordination, flexibility, and self-defence. The club particularly emphasises the benefits of karate for children and young people, helping to improve concentration and build confidence.
For more information about the club and its activities, visitors are encouraged to browse their website, where they can find details about instructors, training sessions, and a gallery of photos. The club also maintains an active presence on social media, with regular updates on their Twitter page.
