Kinkini Nrithyashala stands as a beacon of Indian classical dance, nurturing talent and celebrating the rich cultural heritage for over 35 years. Founded in 1983 by Smt. Yamuna and Sri. N. R. Gopinath, it has become one of Karnataka's premier institutions dedicated to the promotion and popularization of classical dance forms. Guided by the esteemed Artistic Director, Karnataka Kalashri Guru Smt. Rangashree, Kinkini is acclaimed for its unwavering commitment to preserving the purity and essence of Bharatanatyam and other classical dance traditions.
The hallmark of Kinkini is the annual NRITHYOTSAVA festival, a highly anticipated event that showcases the talents of young and emerging artists alongside established performers. This festival, held primarily in Bangalore but also gracing stages in Chennai, Mysore, and Delhi, has featured over 700 dance artists and continues to draw audiences of connoisseurs and enthusiastic learners alike. The festival’s open-to-all policy underscores its mission to make Indian classical dance accessible to everyone.
In addition to performances, Kinkini is actively involved in offering enriching workshops and seminars on various aspects of dance. These educational initiatives are designed to deepen the understanding and appreciation of Indian classical arts. The institution also engages in the production and presentation of dance dramas, some of which receive support from the Department of Culture, Government of India. The Kinkini library, with its collection of books, journals, and audio/video recordings, serves as a valuable resource for students and practitioners of dance and music.
Kinkini’s training wing, led by Guru Rangashree, offers comprehensive Bharatanatyam training in Bangalore and Kuwait, with technology enabling global reach through online lessons. The dedication to high standards of teaching has resulted in numerous students performing their Arangetram and pursuing classical dance with unwavering dedication. The Kuwait chapter, active since 2002, has earned accolades for its professional program presentations and continues to uphold Kinkini’s legacy of excellence in Indian classical dance.
Kinkini's endeavors are supported by the Government of Karnataka and non-government agencies, ensuring the sustenance and growth of its cultural impact. The organization’s significant contributions have been recognized with prestigious awards, including the Karnataka Sangeetha Nrithya Academy Award. Through its various activities, Kinkini remains steadfast in its mission to foster a deep appreciation for the diverse and rich traditions of Indian classical dance.
