Registration for the 2023/24 season at Kingston Striders Speed Skating Club kicks off on Sept 12, with the Learn to Speed Skate program starting on Sept 19. Bob, the club's organizer, invites the sports community of Kingston to dive into the excitement of speed skating.
This season, for a fee of $200, participants in the Learn to Speed Skate program get 8 on-ice sessions, full OSSA/SSC membership, and all the equipment needed. Bob stresses that it's open to all, from beginners to seasoned skaters.
The club caters to all ages and skill levels. Younger skaters can join the Wee Blades and Small Blades programs, which use hockey skates. The All Ages Development program offers sessions on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, letting families skate together, grouped by size and skill level.
For those wanting more intensive training, the Advanced group meets on select evenings and Saturday mornings, offering both dryland and on-ice training. Masters Fitness sessions are also available for skaters aiming to boost their fitness and skills. Equipment rental is accessible for anyone who needs it.
