Welcome to King James VI Golf Club, located on Moncreiffe Island in Perth, New Zealand. This unique golf club is just a short walk from Perth city centre and offers a truly breathtaking setting. Situated on the banks of the River Tay, it is believed to be one of only two inland island golf courses in the world.
Founded in 1858, the club has a rich history. Golfers have been enjoying the idyllic setting of Moncreiffe Island since the club moved there from the North Inch in 1897. Affectionately known as 'King Jimmy' or 'The Island', the club takes great pride in the exceptional presentation and striking setting of its 18-hole course.

The club takes its name from the former King of Scotland, King James VI, who allegedly learned to play golf in the Fair City of Perth during his youth. The current course on Moncreiffe Island was designed by the renowned St Andrews professional, 'Old' Tom Morris, a four-time winner of The Open Championship. Morris incorporated natural features such as walls, burns, and heather into the course design, elements that players still encounter today.
Although the club faced a setback in 1955 when its old wooden clubhouse burned down, it was rebuilt on the same site and remains an integral part of the club's heritage. King James VI Golf Club has also been involved in various golfing 'firsts', including the first interclub golf match in 1860 and Ireland's first interclub match in 1884.
