Holsworthy Aquatic Centre's Learn to Swim program aims to cater to children at various skill levels and provide them with the necessary instruction and support to improve their swimming abilities. The program has garnered positive feedback from parents who have witnessed significant progress in their children's swimming skills.
For instance, a proud parent shared how their daughter went from being a beginner to swimming a 50m race at her school swimming carnival in just 10 months. This remarkable progress demonstrates the effectiveness of the program and the commitment of the instructors at Holsworthy Aquatic Centre. Year-round swimming has proven to be immensely beneficial for this child, and many parents highly recommend both the centre and the regular practice of swimming.
Another grateful parent expressed their appreciation for the centre in teaching their children the lifesaving skill of swimming and instilling in them a love and respect for water. While they never leave their children unattended near water, they trust that their children can confidently save themselves if they were to accidentally fall into water. This valuable skill provides parents with peace of mind.
Aside from the focus on teaching swimming skills, Holsworthy Aquatic Centre also places great emphasis on celebrating each student's accomplishments. Positive praise and rewards serve to encourage students to give their best and continue striving for excellence.
The Learn to Swim program offers different levels tailored to each child's confidence and ability. The Seahorse level is particularly suitable for beginners who may feel a bit nervous in the water. With a maximum class size of only four students, each child receives individual attention to ensure their progress and comfort. In this level, students learn basic swimming skills such as dog paddle, back floating, basic back kicking, and diving. The classes are designed to be enjoyable and anxiety-free.
For children who have completed the Parent and Babies class and are hesitant to proceed to the Seahorse level without their parent in the pool, the Seals class is available. In this class, a parent or carer remains in the water throughout the lesson to assist the child. Once both the parent and child are comfortable with the lesson plan, the parent gradually withdraws from the water, allowing the child to develop confidence and stamina with the guidance of the instructors in a Seahorse class.
As children become more comfortable and skilled in the water, they can progress to higher levels such as Angelfish, Goldfish, Dolphin, and Lobster. Each level focuses on improving specific swimming techniques and building strength and endurance.
The Angelfish level is suitable for children already comfortable in the water and who can control their breathing. Here, they will work on improving their doggy-paddle, building strength, and swimming up to 25m without assistance. They will also learn how to float and backscull for 25m unassisted.
Children in the Goldfish level can already float and dog paddle independently. In this level, they will be taught freestyle arms with one-sided breathing and basic backstroke.
The Dolphin level builds upon the existing swimming techniques, developing 2-arm freestyle without a kickboard, backstroke, and standing dives. By the end of this level, children will be able to swim 2-arm freestyle and backstroke for 25 meters or more with good form.
The Lobster level introduces more advanced techniques such as 3-arms freestyle, breaststroke kick, and butterfly kick. It also focuses on promoting endurance with all strokes. The Lobster level provides a more competitive style of swimming while still maintaining a fun atmosphere.
Each level's classes have a limited number of students to ensure that each child receives individual attention and effective teaching. This setup allows for optimal learning and progress.
Holsworthy Aquatic Centre's Learn to Swim program offers a supportive and engaging environment for children to develop their swimming skills. With highly trained instructors and a range of levels suited to different abilities, children can confidently progress and enjoy the lifelong benefits of swimming.
