About

Welcome to Kensho Karate Dojo, a North London-based martial arts club that specialises in Traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu karate. The name Goju Ryu translates to “Hard and Soft style,” referring to the techniques used in this particular style of karate. “Go” represents strong closed hand or straight techniques, while "Ju” signifies open hand and circular movements.

Kensho Karate Dojo is affiliated with the English Goju Ryu Karate Do Association (EGKA) and the International Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Do Federation (IOGKF). Both organisations are under the guidance of world-renowned karate master, Higaonna Sensei (IOGKF 10th Dan), and World Chief Instructor Nakamura Sensei (IOGKF 7th Dan). The primary goal of the IOGKF is to preserve Traditional Okinawan Goju Ryu karate and pass it on to the next generation.

The name “Kensho” is derived from a Zen term that represents the process of evolving spiritually through experience. At Kensho Karate Dojo, students are encouraged to discover their true nature through dedicated training.

Whether you are a beginner or have prior martial arts experience, Kensho Karate Dojo welcomes individuals of all ages and fitness levels. It is never too late to start your karate journey. The club offers a supportive and friendly environment where you can have fun, stay fit, learn self-defence, and meet new people.

Classes are held at St John Vianney Church Hall, located at 386 West Green Rd, London N15 3QL, with Turnpike Lane being the closest tube station.

The prices for classes are 5 for children and 6 for adults (18+). Additionally, the club offers a block of 10 lessons at 40 for children and 50 for adults. Due to current space limitations, classes must be pre-booked.

For those who decide to pursue karate at Kensho Karate Dojo, obtaining an EGKA licence is necessary. This licence provides personal liability insurance and access to special training events both within the UK and internationally.

Private tuition is also available upon request for those seeking more personalised training.
