Kenbukan Australia - Goju Ryu Karate is a prestigious martial arts school located in Gowrie, Australia. The school specialises in teaching authentic Goju Ryu Karate, one of the main traditional Okinawan styles of karate. With a focus on both hard and soft techniques, the instructors at Kenbukan Australia are dedicated to providing students with the highest quality training and instruction.
The head instructors at Kenbukan Australia have a deep connexion to the birthplace of Karate, having lived and trained in Okinawa, Japan. Under the guidance of Kuba Yoshio sensei, a highly-respected 10th dan Goju Ryu Karate master, both instructors have achieved impressive 3rd and 4th dan ranks. As a result, they have been granted the title of Shibu cho (Branch chief) of the Okinawa Karate do Kenpo Kai in Australia.
What sets Kenbukan Australia apart is its commitment to maintaining a direct link to the source and offering genuine no-nonsense Karate. All instructors at the school have travelled to Okinawa to further their training and compete, ensuring that students receive the most authentic and effective techniques passed down through generations.
Goju Ryu Karate, which translates to “hard-soft style” in Japanese, incorporates a balanced combination of circular and linear movements. Students learn a variety of hard striking attacks, such as kicks and punches, as well as softer open hand circular techniques for attacking, blocking, and controlling opponents. These techniques include locks, grappling, takedowns, and throws.
Kenbukan Australia offers classes for both children and adults. Children aged 5 and above can attend classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 pm to 6:45 pm at Holy Family Primary School in Gowrie. Meanwhile, adults aged 16 and above have classes every Tuesday from 7 pm to 8:30 pm at the same location. In addition, the school also provides extra classes for more advanced students.
