About

Kelso Rugby Football Club, founded in 1876, is a well-established club in the Scottish Rugby Union. With a rich history and numerous successes, Kelso RFC has become a prominent name in the world of rugby.

The club, based in Kelso, is known for its impressive achievements in both the abbreviated game of 7s and the traditional 15s game. In the 30s, Kelso experienced a fine run of success in the Border League and produced eight Scottish international players and one British Lion. They also had notable victories in the Border Sevens, including defeating the Barbarians at Melrose Sports.

In the 80s, Kelso RFC dominated the 7s game and were the leading power in the land. Their exceptional performance led to success both for the club and individual players in the 15s game. They won the Border League on a couple of occasions and had players like Eric Paxton, Roger Baird, Gary Callander, John Jeffery, Alan Tait, and Andrew Ker representing both the club and Scotland.

Kelso RFC's success continued in the 90s, reaching their first Scottish Cup final in 97-98 and narrowly missing out on victory in a tear-jerking defeat to Gala. Throughout the years, the club produced several talented players who represented Scotland, participated in British Lions tours, and even played in the first World Cup in New Zealand in 1987.

At Kelso RFC, the focus is not only on the game but also on fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. The club is committed to bringing people together and promoting the values of teamwork, integrity, and respect. They strive to create an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of age or skill level, can enjoy and excel in the sport.

Kelso RFC's home ground is Poynder Park, located in Poynder Place, Kelso. With its rich history, dedicated players, and passionate supporters, the club continues to make its mark in the rugby world.
