What do you teach at the Kelowna Kendo Club?

We practice kendo, a Japanese martial art of fencing. Training includes correct and rigid practice, plus kendo kata performed with wooden swords such as bokken and bokuto.

We practice kata using wooden swords like bokken and bokuto, and we also discuss kata performed with kata-yo or habiki for display. Kata include fundamental attacking and counter-attacking techniques used in general kendo.

Kelowna Kendo Club | Mixed Martial Arts

Come check out the Kelowna Kendo Club, right in the heart of Kelowna! This club brings you the incredible art of Kendo, a Japanese sword fighting sport that sharpens both body and mind. Led by Victor Nishi and sempai Greg Reschke, they’re all about balancing martial arts tradition with the excitement of sport.

Whether you're a beginner or looking to level up, they've got you covered. You'll learn the two sets of kata with wooden swords and master the basics of attacking and counter-attacking. The club's grading system goes from 1-dan to 10-dan, and students are assessed through practical and, at higher levels, written tests. Victor and Greg are dedicated to helping everyone improve and reach higher dan grades with solid guidance and practice.

Join their regular practice sessions every Tuesday and Thursday at the Rotary Centre for the Arts. Curious about Kendo?
