Kazoku Judokan is a reputable sports club located in Adelaide, South Australia. Founded in 2015 by James Bradbury, the club initially trained along the foreshore of Heron Way Reserve at Hallet Cove. However, as the club grew and gained recognition, they moved to an indoor venue at Byard's Gym in Reynella East College on October 28th, 2016, which allowed for more formal training.
The name “Kazoku” was chosen for the club, as it is the Japanese word for “Family. ” James and his coaching staff aim to create a fun and family-oriented Judo club, while still instilling the discipline and values associated with the history of Japanese martial arts. Their goal is to provide a supportive environment where members can learn and excel in the sport.
Kazoku Judokan prides itself on its commitment to training the Junior State Team in preparation for the Judo Federation of Australia's National Championships. As part of this mission, James has developed the MONster Judo programme, which focuses on developing the next generation of young judoka for competition in South Australia. MONster Judo offers a fun environment for young judo players to learn competition techniques without the pressure of a formal contest. The emphasis is on participation and development rather than winning, and events are held at various clubs throughout South Australia to encourage new judo players to participate.
The club's session times vary throughout the week. On Tuesday, training is held from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm for children aged 5 to 12 who are beginners to orange belt, and from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm for those aged 12 and above who are orange belt and higher. On Friday, sessions run from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm for children aged 5 to 10 who are beginners to yellow belt, and from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm for all ages and belt levels.
