Welcome to Kazoku Dojo, a traditional martial arts school in Edmonton that focuses on training the mind, body, and spirit through the practices of Okinawan Uechi Ryu Karate and Ryukyu Kobudo. Our dojo is dedicated to upholding the traditions of these ancient martial arts forms while fostering a sense of community and family amongst our students.
Led by Kinjo Masakazu Sensei, a Kudan 9th Dan Black Belt Shihan Master Instructor in both Uechi-Ryu Karate and Ryukyu Kobudo, our team of instructors are committed to passing on their knowledge and skills to each and every student. Sensei Doug Smith, a Kyoshi Nanadan 7th Dan Black Belt Shihan Master Instructor in Uechi-Ryu Karate, has been training since 1984 and is one of the oldest international dojos under the Uechi-Ryu Hozonkai & Ryukyu Kobudo Hozonkai.
For children ages 6-12, our youth karate program teaches the fundamental skills of Uechi-Ryu Karate while focusing on physical fitness and discipline. Teens and adults aged 13 and older can join our classes to improve mental and physical capabilities through the practice of Uechi-Ryu Karate.
In addition to karate, we also offer Kobudo classes for teens and adults, focusing on the ancient weapons used in Okinawan martial arts. Our instructors, such as Sensei Mike Varro and Sensei Kym Varro, bring their expertise and experience to each class to ensure students receive the best instruction possible.
