Kathak Kendra Nrityashala is an Indian classical Kathak dance institution located in Auckland, New Zealand. It is traditionally believed to have originated from the travelling bards of North India known as 'Kathakars' or storytellers. These Kathakars roamed around, conveying legendary stories through music, dance, and songs, much like the early Greek theatre.

The genre of Kathak developed during the Bhakti movement, which was a trend of theistic devotion that evolved in mediaeval Hinduism. Kathakars communicate stories through rhythmic foot movements, hand gestures, facial expressions, and eye work. This performing art incorporates legends from ancient mythology and great Indian epics, particularly those related to the life of Lord Krishna. It gained popularity in the courts of North Indian kingdoms.

At Kathak Kendra Nrityashala, three specific forms of Kathak, known as gharanas, are emphasised. These gharanas, namely the Jaipur gharana, the Banaras gharana, and the Lucknow gharana, differ in their emphasis on footwork versus acting. The founder of Kathak Kendra Nrityashala is Parul Juneja, an accomplished Kathak dancer herself. Born in the capital city of India, Parul Juneja was introduced to the world of Kathak at a tender age of 5 by her father, Shri Dinesh Sharma. What started as just an extracurricular activity soon became Parul Juneja's biggest passion in life.
