Kathak Dance Institute in Mississauga, also known as Taal Academy, upholds this traditional teaching method by providing expert guidance in the art of Kathak dance. Founded in 2002 by Shilpa Save, the academy has grown to enrol over 150 students who are passionate about learning and showcasing the richness of Indian culture through dance.
The academy offers structured training for students of all ages, from beginners to diploma holders. Students have the opportunity to prepare for examinations and certifications from renowned Indian universities such as Akhil Bharatiya Gandharva Mahavidyalaya in Mumbai and Bharati Vidyapeeth School of Performing Arts in Pune. Taal Academy is also an authorized examination centre for Bharati Vidyapeeth.
Under the guidance of Guru Shilpa Save, students at Taal Academy have the opportunity to participate in bi-annual dance recitals held in theatres, as well as other professionally produced and choreographed shows throughout the year. The academy prides itself on providing a nurturing and dedicated environment where Kathak is not just an art form, but a passion to be nurtured and showcased.
Taal Academy boasts a team of dedicated student-teachers who work with beginner and younger groups of students, providing care and love in their teaching methods. The academy has seen significant growth over the years, with students achieving enviable levels of accomplishment in Kathak studies. The academy recently opened a Brampton location managed by a diploma holder from Taal Academy, further expanding its reach within the community.
The bi-annual recitals at Taal Academy serve as a platform for students to come together and showcase their learning through a variety of performances. Past shows have included innovative and choreographed performances such as Rituchakra, Utkranti, and Tribute to the Gurus, all performed to the highest standards of excellence by the students and artists of Taal Academy.
