About the founder, Kate Mooney: Kate is a highly qualified dance teacher and examiner with extensive experience in teaching dance across different educational settings in the South West. She holds a degree in Dance from Roehampton University and a Post Graduate Certificate in Performance from The London Centre for Theatre Studies. Kate further enhanced her teaching skills by completing a PGCE in Dance at the Institute of Education, which led to her achieving Qualified Teacher Status. Her passion for dance led her to perform with various Physical Theatre companies in London and the UK.
She also served as a Lecturer in Dance and Performance at City and Islington College and as Head of Dance at Lipson Cooperative Academy in Plymouth. Kate is a BBO registered teacher, and the Kate Mooney School of Dance is a BBO registered exam centre.
To ensure the safety and well-being of all students, the school has implemented thorough risk assessments and policies. These include a general risk assessment, health and safety policy, media consent form, Covid risk assessment, and fire safety policy. The school offers a range of classes for both children and adults. Classes for children are held at the Lostwithiel Community Centre. For young children aged 6 months to 3 years, there are Ballet Boppers sessions, which are interactive and sensory experiences. Children and their parents actively participate in these classes, using props, music, and even a bubble machine!
For children aged 3 to 4 years, there is the Pre-School Ballet class, which focuses on developing independence and learning classical ballet exercises from the BBO Introduction to Ballet syllabus.
