Thursdays and are designed for those who want to continue their dance training or start learning as beginners. These classes focus on a range of dance styles including tap, modern, and ballet. Whether you're looking to improve your skills or try something new, our classes cater to dancers of all levels.
The Kate Doherty School of Dance is located in Glasgow and offers a wide variety of dance classes for children and adults. Our main enrolment for each term is in August, but students can join classes at any time if there is space available. Our aim is to provide fun-filled classes for everyone who wants to learn to dance.
The school follows the BATD syllabus in tap, modern stage, majorette, and ballet. This allows our students to take part in exams and showcase their talents in our dancing shows. Our dancers are trained by friendly, qualified teachers who are dedicated to helping them reach their full potential.
For children, we offer the Tiny Tots class for ages 2 and up. In this class, students are introduced to tap steps, ballet, and modern stage. They also learn the basics of majorette marching and twirling using lightweight batons. As they progress, they move up to the exam classes where they continue to develop their skills in tap and modern stage.
Our stage classes are a great way for dancers to develop rhythm, coordination, and technique. Tap lessons are particularly enjoyable, as students learn to create rhythmic sounds through their footwork. Modern stage incorporates various movement styles, including jazz and ballet, to help build fitness and flexibility.
While freestyle/street and cheerleading are not part of our main syllabus, we incorporate these styles into our dancing show routines. This allows our dancers to explore different dance genres and showcase their versatility. In our majorette sessions, students learn basic baton twirling and military march, progressing to more complex dance twirl routines as they advance.
Ballet is also an important aspect of our dance school. Ballet is taught in the Starlite class, and students from age 6 and up can join additional ballet classes where they learn grade work and medal tests. Ballet training provides our dancers with fundamental techniques that are applicable to many other dance styles. Even older students can benefit from starting ballet, as it helps develop core strength, muscle tone, and graceful posture.
In addition to our regular classes, we also offer Thursday classes specifically for teenagers, advanced dancers, and adults. These classes cater to those who want to continue their dance training or start learning as beginners. We believe dance is an art form that can be enjoyed at any age, and our classes provide a supportive and inclusive environment for dancers of all levels.
At the Kate Doherty School of Dance, we are passionate about providing high-quality dance education in a fun and welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're a beginner or have years of experience, we have classes that will suit your needs. Join us and discover the joy of dance at our Glasgow-based dance school.
