Karat Jutsu Kenkyukai, located in Villeray, Montreal, is led by Sensei Franois Gurard, who has over 35 years of experience in martial arts. While his exploration has been diverse, including Akijutsu, Judo, Chuan fa, and Kendo, karate remains the constant focus of his study. Sensei Gurard has been teaching traditional Okinawan karate for nearly 15 years and serves as the Shibucho (official representative) of Koryu Uchinadi Kenpo Jutsu (KU), dedicated to teaching and promoting this approach developed by master and researcher Hanshi Patrick McCarthy.
The school offers classes for different age groups on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. The schedule accommodates children as young as 3 years old up to adults aged 13 and above. Due to COVID-19, the schedule may be subject to change to ensure the safety of all students and staff. The classes focus on building discipline, strength, and technique through the practice of Okinawan karate.
