At Penarth Karate, the focus is on Harada Sensei's Karate, a dynamic and fluid style that emphasises strong postures and personal development. Unlike some other clubs, there are no shouting, breaking, or competitions involved. Instead, members can expect to engage in training that allows them to progress at their own pace, regardless of their fitness level, strength, flexibility, age, disability, or previous martial arts experience.
Physical and mental preparation are taken seriously at Penarth Karate. Each training session begins with yoga-style stretches to prepare the limbs and improve mobility and range of movement. Breathing exercises are incorporated to clear and ready the mind, while pilates-style positional holds are used to enhance core strength and strengthen joints. Callisthenic movements are also included to challenge weight transitions. Once properly prepared, members engage in high-quality Karate practice.
Jonathan de' Claire, the lead instructor at Penarth Karate, brings a wealth of experience to the club. Having received all of his gradings directly from the world-renowned Master Mitsusuke Harada MBE, Jonathan has played a significant role in assisting Harada Sensei in teaching on numerous international Karate courses. His dedication and expertise shine through in the photos and video footage of the club's training sessions.
