Kanata Fencing is a hub for all ages and experience levels right here in Kanata. With over 60 members, from the age of 10 onwards, it's a place where everyone can dive into fencing, whether you're just starting or you've been at it for years. The school covers all three weapons – foil, sabre, and épée.
Jonathan Rennick, along with Bob Rennick and the club's founder Richard Smith, are at the helm, ensuring the club runs smoothly. Their goal is simple: inclusion, encouragement, and fun. They want every member to feel supported and enjoy their time at the club.
Kanata Fencing doesn't get external funding and relies on donations and club fees. If you can chip in, your support helps keep the club going. They offer private lessons, kids' classes, and adult classes to meet everyone's needs.
For those curious about fencing, they offer trial classes with plastic equipment – a perfect way to get a feel for the sport. You can also drop by on a club night to watch and ask questions before you decide to join in.
Membership with the Canadian Fencing Federation is necessary, with fees ranging from $35 to $80 annually. New gear can cost between $350 to $400, but the club also sells used equipment at a lower price. They're happy to help you find what you need if you’re buying new gear.
