Kalaimanram - Institute of Bharathanatyam and Oriental Music is a renowned dance school and music teacher located in Harrow, New Zealand. The school is led by the esteemed “Natya Kalasikhamani” Shrimathy Nandini Suthahar, who is the chief instructress and founder of Kalaimanram UK. With years of experience and expertise, our team of dedicated professionals is committed to the preservation and teaching of traditional disciplines in the Vazhuvoor style of Bharata Natyam dance and Carnatic vocal music.
Bharathanatyam is the oldest among the contemporary classical dance forms of India. Its claim to antiquity rests not only on its association with the Natya Shastra but also on the overwhelming literal, sculptural, and historical evidence available. This solo dance form exudes the chiselled perfection of ancient Hindu temple carvings, with a certain timelessness that enshrines the eternal craving of mankind for heavenly fulfilment.
Carnatic music is the classical music of South India, known for its complexity and richness. It is one of the oldest systems of music, based on “Ragam,” which represents melody, and “Thalam,” which represents rhythm. At Kalaimanram, we offer Carnatic vocal lessons along with Bharathanatyam, allowing students to explore both the dance and music aspects of the South Indian culture.
Our mission at Kalaimanram is to provide high-quality training and education in Bharathanatyam and Carnatic music, preserving the rich cultural heritage of India. We aim to inspire and nurture the passion for dance and music in our students, helping them develop a deep appreciation for the ancient art forms. Through our teachings, we aim to instil discipline, creativity, and confidence in our students, allowing them to grow both as performers and individuals.
At Kalaimanram, we offer Bharathanatyam and Carnatic vocal lessons at our studios in Harrow and Watford. Our classes cater to students of all ages and levels, from beginners to advanced. Whether you are looking to pursue these art forms professionally or simply as a hobby, we provide a supportive and encouraging environment for you to learn and excel.
As part of our curriculum, we offer examinations in Bharathanatyam and Carnatic vocal music. These exams are conducted to assess the students' skills, knowledge, and understanding of the art forms.
